What Is Mediation?

In mediation, I act as a neutral third party to help both parties come to an agreement. Mediation is not binding, but it is a very cost-effective alternative that reduces the animosity of negotiations. In arbitration, I also act as a neutral third party, but I act essentially as a judge and the two sides agree beforehand (in writing) to accept my decision. A mediated or arbitrated agreement must be submitted to the court for approval, but in many cases you do not have to appear in a courtroom.
